Cleared St. Mary's Ring at Sycamore Girl Scout Camp and replanted thirteen new trees.

  2. 2000

    Purdue, my alma mater.

    Major subjects

Professional Writing and Art & Design among other subjects including fiction, poetry, and art appreciation.

    My Achievements

Where I added to my own personal studies of art, design, writing, and marketing.

    What I learned

Coding, Writing, rhetoric, languages (Greek and Roman), music theory, journalism.

    Anecdote

I ended up speaking several times a year at my alma mater's school of management after graduation.

  3. 2001

    Purdue Department of Physics.

    Inception

I was hired to design slides for the department showing how to load a dewar. I swiftly adapted these designs to a 3D modeling application to create ray-traced videos of the process.

    Continued Learning

Other duties included conceptual sketches, website design and promotional graphics for the various classes and activities of the school. I also learned the basics of IT and network technology.

  4. 2008

    Bought a House.

    Pros

Beautiful, comfortable mid-century bungalow a few blocks from the thriving downtown.

    Cons

Lots of money spent on fixing up, sore hands, sore back, sore brain. Anyone who owns a house knows.

    Most Importantly

This is where I did my greatest work yet. I fathered my beautiful children, Huxley and Dashiell.

  5. 2009

    Established My Own Company.

I started my media company, Maximumedia Design to create websites and other media for clients in the real estate and lifestyle sectors as well as help friends with their Google ranking and SEO.

I quickly locked in clients like HBO (synced music for a major boxing match), Toyota (promoted events and performed), Red Bull (designed print media flyers and passes), and arranged music for National Geographic, the NBA, Nike, and Wax Poetics among others.

  6. 2010

    Established a Studio.

    Location

    Downtown Lafayette, Indiana

    My Team

Where I created my design team.

  7. 2011

    Established a Brick & Mortar.

    Structore

A thin building with a glass front, a ground-floor office with a walk-up loft and a full basement on Main Street.

    Clientele

Continued work for long-time clients and grew my business with notoriety and walk-in business.

    Longevity

I ran my business for a decade or more between home, my first studio, and my brick and mortar.

    Wisdom

Sometimes you take a leap and fly for awhile, but I was ready for a change. I decided freelance may be right.

  8. 2018

    Continued Work & More.

I continued to work on expanding my business in graphic design, audio visual, marketing, and development. I also continued to nurture my creative instinct outside of the purely commercial sphere by offsetting my already creative business model with other lucrative ideas including continued releases of hip hop and experimental albums, graffiti and stencil art, stickers, and Mattern's Original All-Purpose Teetotum. More about that…

  9. 2019

    Mattern's Original All-Purpose Teetotum.

    My Patent

A game piece meant to generate curiosity and conversation called Mattern's Original All-Purpose Teetotum.

    The Purpose

    To generate conversation & curiosity.

    The Impetus

My friends were developing IP, but I wanted something tangible.

    Are you nuts?!

Is it so nuts to want something to remain that is just as crazy as you were after you're gone?

  10. 2022

    The Lodge.

    Atmosphere

A quiet street next to the railyard where the train makes it's own rhythm and often hums like an industrial band or some strange, Stygian orchestra.

    Prospectus

Also called "The Library," it is a place of the esoteric meant to house books, leisure, and conversation. Do as Thou Wilt Shall Be the Whole of the Law.

  11. 2025

    Looking Forward To More Opportunities.

Continuing to take the lead on duties at Matterns Pine Ridge Nursery as well as creating music as Atarilogic while pursuing freelance and contract work in design and consulting are exciting prospects which I have made into a lifestyle. I experiment with sounds, write books, and arrange scores for film. This is a wonderful chapter which allows me to grow in business and creativity.
